Resolutions, sort of...

Well there are several things I plan to do this year - I am not going to call them resolutions because I feel resolutions are made to be broken - but here are the current plans for 2010:

Personal:
Get Healthier - I'd like to say lose (enter number) pounds and exercise and all of these lofty ideas but I know the main goal is to feel better on a daily basis - there are some plans in place such as exercising and eating better and continuing to work with my doctor on some underlying health issues.

Household:
De-clutter and Define - It is my goal to finish unpacking and organizing the house - the main rooms that need work are the garage and my sewing/guest room - part of this plan is to continue getting rid of unnecessary household stuff, collectables, and clothes I do not wear - some progress has been made in 2009 so I would like to continue that progress.

Crafty:
Organize and Reduce - This is also overlapping with Household - Cut down on what I buy in the craft realm and work with the supplies and stash I already have. I also want to record what I have in sewing patterns, fabric, yarn, and other craft supplies and get rid of those supplies I am not using nor have no plans of using.

Online:
Belonging and Blogging - I want to get involved in the online craft communities again. I would also like to do some book or craft reviews for either existing craft review sites or on my blog for companies looking for product reviews.

I feel these are all obtainable and realistic goals because there are not numbers and dates attached to these goals so failure or quitting cannot happen - only moving forward, towards the goals can happen.

Look what I finished! :D I started this stocking several years ago. I picked it up and a couple of weeks ago and finished it tonight when I got home from work. I really like the rustic look. The pattern is Rustic Lodge from Knit Christmas Stockings! 19 Patterns for Stockings & Ornaments. It's a super easy knit. Enjoy!

Well I worked on my Hogwarts scarf again but I must be getting bored because I wanted to do some thread crochet - so I picked up a ball of thread and a hook at lunch and started a a little doily - I ended up pulling it out because I need a smaller hook but I still got in my daily dose of fiber...:D

I knit a little yesterday but I imagine it was less than 20 minutes as I was busy with work and a fun adventure! I went to see a cook-off between Top Chef Ilan Hall and Top Chef Runner Up Richard Blais - I can post pics if anyone is interested.

Today I knit for 20 minutes on my Hogwarts Scarf and had to ladder down to a stitch I messed up about 8 rows down! Yikes! but all is better now - I also updated Raverly with progress pics!

I just spent my time working on my Hogwart's Scarf in Slytherin Colors - I am using Cascade 220 in 8407 soft gray/silver and 8267 dark/forest green. I am almost done with the second green stripe, I hope to finish this one pretty quickly. Maybe I will use my 20 minutes a day to get this one done and work on my socks later.

Well I really have been knitting - I have been working on the blanket below - I call it the never ending baby blanket although I think I see an end soonish...

I am teaching myself how to knit in several colors so when the new Knitty came out Center Square caught my attention - I had the Paton's Wool in the perfect pirate colors so here is my red and black Center Square - I had to take a little sanity break in the never ending baby blanket and this was perfect - methinks more of these will be flying off the needles in different colors...

For those who know me know that Fun Fur and other fuzzy yarn is usually not on my list of must have yarns - I love the classics - good old wool, Lamb's Pride Worsted, etc - well the yarn below has been calling my name for some time - it is Prisma in color way 400 - it is rainbow - well in my world rainbows trump fuzzy - at least this time - I am learning the ins and out of knitting with this type of yarn - "ripping" it out is virtually impossible! Blargh - I think I am doing ok so far though! The scarf is a super simple scarf pattern I got from the yarn show where I got the yarn and I think it is perfect for showcasing the fun nature of the yarn...

and last but not least I have been teaching knitting and crochet at my local Michaels Arts and Crafts - I made one sample for them so far but need to take a picture of it - it is like the bulky cabled purse I made way back in January of last year but in Brown Wool Ease Thick and Quick - it looks pretty good too - the teaching is fun - I make a little money getting to do something I enjoy and I am helping others learn a new skill - all good things in my book...

I got a package filled with Pirate Goodness the from my Knittyboard SP 7 ! I now can take a Pirate bath with my Pirate Devil Duckie! I guess I will have to get a Black Pearl Bath Bomb from LUSH to keep it on theme! I also got a lovely ball of Rowan Wool Cotton for Knucks from Knitty! Thank you SP 7 for the great package!

Just wanted to send a shout out to my One Skein Pal! She sent me a lovely ball of Opal Dreamcatcher in a red, white & blue colorway, The Ultimate Book of Knit Socks, and a Rain scented Candle so that it would rain here in my town. The candle worked - pretty cool!

In other news I am now moderatly addicted to Podcasts! Listening to one right now! Tonight Podcast is It's a Purl, Man - I have been listening to Cast-On in the car since I got a car kit for my Ipod! Both are good listens! I have started at the beginning of the Pod Casts because I am orderly like that so I am listening to Podcasts from the past working towards the future. I have to read novel sets in order too! It's a thing! Hope every one has a great week! Oh there's a new Knitty if you have not heard!

First One Skein Package!

An Update!

Ok - something big is coming in the next post but I thought I would put all the business updates here - I have no finished Sockapaloooza socks to show off because I dropped out at the 11th hour - I felt bad but I did not get any socks and someone else made socks for my downstream pal so everyone was taken care of - I just could not get them done in a timely fashion and felt overwhelmed with my surgery and everything so I decided to drop out - I hope my pals understood...

I did finally finish my Branching Out - I actually finished around the first of March but was busy with surgery stuff and had blocking block! (is there such a thing?) Here is proof that I can knit lace!

So I am not a gold medalist - also I am not disappointed by this because my knitting skills have improved - and I know that it not if you win or lose it is how you play the game! I now can knit lace patterns in between calls at work - this is a great accomplishment in my world! First Felting

Lookie there - felted fuzzy feet - they were almost felted them too small - the roomie was helping since they are his fuzzy feets and thought they needed to be a little smaller - thank goodness felting stretches a little before drying

I put a bunch of my wool yarn into the little Cedar Trunk my mom got for me for Christmas to make room for all my knitting books in the shelf- the wool on top is to make Rogue and under it is Paton's Wool, Lion Wool, a little Cascade and some Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks...

and I finished my Booga Bag! Woohoo - I will admit I made the cord with my Clover Wonder Knitter - I just have not figured out I-Cord and I just wanted to get it all done!

Felting is still on the agenda sometime soon! I promise!

So I have been sewing - I made this lovely needle roll for my DPN's a week or so ago! I think I will be making more of these...

Knitting Row Counter Program - Updated

'Tis the season for gifts so I asked my programmer DSO to make a cool little gift for all my knitting friends - a row counter that you can install to your computer - it's very simple but at the top you can put the number of total rows you want to count (such as rows for patterns or cables) and when you have completed the number of rows indicated it resets for you - it also removes rows if need be - it is as easy (easier I think) to use as a Clover Kacha-Kacha counter and it seems many of us knit computer-side so it might be a handy tool! Anyhow it is free! You can download the installation program HERE.

EDIT: The program has been updated with some different labels so you might want to download it again!

I received my package from my Knittyboard Holiday Secret Pal - look at all them goodies! I got Lavender bath Confetti and a Handknit Chenille Washcloth(it's fuschia not red - bad camera!), A little bag with Lion Brand Stitch Markers, handmade stitch markers and a cool pewter Knit pin, 2 balls of Knitpicks Essential Sock Yarn in Grass (I have much sock knitting to do now), a small Clover Crochet hook for picking up dropped stitches (that will be VERY helpful) and a ball of LB Incredible in Accent on Black - it was all wrapped up in fun tissue paper and pretty pink ribbons! Thank you Holiday Secret Pal! I love my goodies!

I am a native Texan, a native Houstonian at that.
Per the people I support daily, I have little or no Texas accent, they think I am from Boston or somewhere other than Texas.
I took speech therapy as a child because I said my R’s as W’s. Perhaps that is why people think I am from somewhere else.
I have done telephone tech support for various companies including Microsoft since 1997.
I taught myself a lot of what I know to do Tech Support by playing around with computers and reading books.
I've never completed college, but would like to go back one day.
I am an A+ certified technician.
I have been around crafty people all my life, both my grandmother and mother were seamstresses, I had some of the best costumes as a child.They both had other craft interests as well.My grandmother did needlepoint on plastic canvas and macrame and my mother crochets, and makes beautiful beaded Christmas ornaments.
I am very crafty though I dabble a lot, I know how to sew, crochet, knit, make jewelry, sculpt, embroider, cross-stitch and do some various paper crafts, I am sure there are others in there I have forgotten.
I think I might be mildly dyslexic, but I am tenacious so I figure out how to do things on my own or ask for help when I feel confused.
A few years ago I taught myself to crochet and I crochet pretty good, but sometimes I get confused reading the patterns, that is when I call mom.
I tried for about 2 years to teach myself to knit but could never figure it out so I took a class.The class helped but at the end of the class I realized that I was twisting all my stitches the wrong way, the teacher just said it was no big deal.To me that was unacceptable so I found http://www.knittinghelp.com/ and taught myself the right way to knit, well at least my way to knit!
Knitting patterns sometimes confuse me too but less than crochet patterns.
I have played Role Playing games for 25 years now; I started playing D&D with my brother and his friends when I was 14.I currently do a bit of live role playing and play World of Warcraft as well.
I have been married once and have never remarried.

I am trying to think of some others - comment and ask questions - maybe I can find more things about me!

Well last week I went to Beaumont/Vidor and Houston to deal with family issues and I decided I needed to get me a little yarn as well. On the right is some Lion Brand Landscapes in the Rose Garden colorway and some Bernat Lana in natural that I got on sale at Hobby Lobby in Beaumont and on the left is Hunter Green Lamb's Pride Worsted and some Koigu KPPPM in a rainbowy color way from Yarns 2 Ewe in Houston. Most of the yarn is for various sock applications, Koigu for some fun sock something (I'll take suggestions), the Lana is destined to become a pair of Kilt Socks and the Lamb's Pride is for Fuzzy Feet of course! I believe I will conquer the sock monster yet - watch this space for progress on that front! I got the Landscapes because I have been eyeing it for a while and the price was right but I doubt it will become socks!

Wow those Knitty Folk are mighty cool - I got RAK'd a second time - I got a big box with Dark Chocolate goodies (truffles=yum), a Starbuck's Gift Card, Natural Wool-Ease T&Q, KnitPicks Andean Silk in Lettuce, A ball of Woolpak in Dark Purple (you can almost see it under the chocolate bar on the left of the picture), and three(!!!) balls of Plymouth Baby Alpaca Brush in lovely light green color. Well I am still working on my Booga Bag, but I just printed out Branching Out and Fuzzy Feet as I have a hank Alpaca Cloud in Tide Pool for Branching Out and 5 or 6 skeins of Lamb's Pride Worsted in various colors for Fuzzy Feet. There is a great place to to get a Grab Bag of Lamb's Pride worsted at this site. I started a black sweater from a book I got the other day but I am only a few rows into it. I am making it out of Caron Simply Soft because that was one of the suggested yarns and I want it to be something I can wash and wear. I have a ton of other things I would like to make but need to focus and finish something I have started. Seems I have a lot of motivation to make things for other folks but never finish anything for me.

Socks & Bags

Last weekend I used the Knitty: Socks 101 Training Sock Pattern to learn the techniques used in sock making - so now I am working on a real sock to see if I can figure it all out - here are the results so far. A training sock and the turned heel of a Sharon sized ankle sock. I have also discovered the wonders of Sock Yarn. I know I am going to have to get some Opal Rainforest Tiger Sock Yarn soon! I am also working on a Booga Bag that got put on the back burner for the socky goodness - but here is a progress picture!

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer higher quality and/or natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you? I prefer higher quality yarns but I certainly like Lion Brand and Red Heart still too!

2. Do you spin? No Crochet? Yes, but not much since I learned to knit!

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.) Cats, and Patchouli are the only ones that come to mind!

4. How long have you been knitting? Since March 2005

9. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) All kinds - 80's is my favorite - I can play MP3s

10. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand? Hunter Green, Black, Red, Rainbows and all Shades of Pink - I like all colors!

11. What is your family situation? Living with roommates Do you have any pets? Nope

12. What are your life dreams? Depends on the day of the week - I would love to make my living crafting but I see that as a pipe dream!

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? Noro Kureyon, Basic Wool (Paton's Classic Merino, Cascade 220) would love to branch out more...

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? None at this time to I tend to prefer smooth yarns over really fuzzy yarns like mohair.

15. What is/are your current knitting obsession/s? I think felting though I have to complete something to felt!

16. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Bags right now, want to do a sweater soon - maybe something from Knitty (Tempting or Kyoto comes to mind)

22. How did you learn to knit? Tried to teach myself for some time then took a class - learned wrong in the class and then went to www.knittinghelp.com and figured it all out!

24. What is your favorite animated character or a favorite animal/bird? Cats! Puss in Boots from Shrek

25. What is your favorite holiday? Halloween

26. Is there anything that you collect? Anything with roses on it, dolls, candles.

30. What are your foot measurements, and what kinds of socks do you like? I wear a size 11 shoe (length 10", Instep around 10.25" Ankle 10.5") and I like all kinds of socks - I am adventurous!
